Values in banking pay off
11 December 2012Olivia Bowen (EIA Advisory Group Member)
Positive outcome from a report by the Global Alliance for Banking on Values: Sustainable banks whose main aim is to benefit communities & the environment have shown greater financial performance than those whose core goal is to maximise financial profits.
The report, published in March 2012, compared 17 values-based banks against 29 conventional banks, over the period 2001-2011 . The former show higher levels of lending and stronger financial returns. We are not surprised by these results – it makes sense that responsible businesses can and do outperform those with solely a financial focus.
