  • Strong support for community owned wind farms

    11 January 2013

A recent ICM poll found that most of the UK public favour wind projects over non-renewable energy – nuclear has least support, then coal.  Perhaps unsurprisingly, shale gas was also not popular with 67% preferring wind turbines and only 11% coming out In support of shale gas.

In contrast 68% of those surveyed would welcome a community-owned wind turbine within 2miles of their home, with only 7% against such projects.

If the project was not community owned support reduces to 49%.

10% of Britain’s wind power is community owned at present- a not insignificant share. This success is due to like-minded people pulling together for combined benefit; and , like ethical investors, investing their money in line with their values.
