  • Look out to be ‘Trashed’

The need for recycling was one of the areas that got me interested in environmental issues.  I was interested, therefore, to see an article in the Guardian yesterday (see below) promoting a new film documentary called ‘Trashed’.

This will be a feature length film fronted by Jeremy Irons highlighting the huge problems caused by global waste. Alongside film maker Candida Brady Irons has travelled all over the globe collecting a huge amount of research. This has been backed up by over 80 research papers, which are available on the film’s website.

There is some shocking footage for example relating to the hugely damaging effects of dioxins to the human body. There are also positive stories, such as the example of San Francisco which diverts 80% of its waste from landfill and incineration. Interestingly New York only diverts 15%.

Irons calls for national waste strategies to be put in place, which as well as tackling the problem head on will also create tremendous economic opportunities.

The film is launched in Spring next year. It would definitely be worth supporting!
